Human Factors and Ergonomics in Dye Penetrant and Magnetic Particles Nondestructive Inspection Methods
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) and Magnetic Particles Inspection (MPI) are two of the most commonly used Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques in industry. Both techniques do rely heavily on human judgment and visual capability to identify any faults or defects on the specimen at the end of the process. Despite the fact that human plays an important role on the reliability of the NDT test results, very little research work has been carried out to study the ergonomics and human factors in using these NDT methods. In this paper, several human factors which could affect the reliability of the tests are discussed and some recommendations are also provided to improve the tests.

Non-destructive testing methods are used to detecting defects in materials and evaluation of materials properties without causing changes to their usable properties. They are applied in industry to provide the assurance of high quality for semi-manufactured products, final products, devices and materials. Except of many civilian applications they are widely used in rocket and aviation industry ...
متن کاملSelecting a Nondestructive Testing Method, Part II: Visual Inspection
http://ammtiac.alionscience.com The AMMTIAC Quarterly, Volume 1, Number 3 INTRODUCTION Visual inspection is by far the most common nondestructive testing (NDT) technique [1]. When attempting to determine the soundness of any part or specimen for its intended application, visual inspection is normally the first step in the examination process. Generally, almost any specimen can be visually exami...

Penetrant testing (PT) and magnetic particles inspection (MPI) are widespread methods of non-destructive testing which are not required a lot of investments for manual application and are simple in terms of discontinuous interpretation. On the other hand, work with chemicals requires special precautions, safety instructions and disposal limitations. Growing demand among customers to decrease im...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the reactive dye structure and type of penetrant in ink formulation on paper ink-jet printing. Different type of papers, which have same grammage was printed upon with three commercial reactive dyes, CI Reactive Blue 49 Ink 1, 4, CI Reactive Blue 21 Ink 2, Ink 5 and CI Reactive Blue 19 Ink 3, Ink 6, which are based on different reactive...
متن کاملA fuzzy approach to the evaluation of human factors in ultrasonic nondestructive examinations
Human factors are among the main elements affecting the reliability of nondestructive examinations (NDE). In a man-machine system, human reliability is affected by many factors (performance shaping factors) whose influence on reliability cannot be easily expressed quantitatively. This paper identifies and ranks 59 perform-ance shaping factors by using a fuzzy reasoning method and proposes a pro...
